Fauci
As a tiny few weeks old puppy, in the house in Upton, somehow Fauci kept ending up in my lap. I’d reach into the pool to pick one for couch snuggling or simply carrying around, and without thinking it somehow ended up being Fauci. I took it as a sign that he was supposed to stay, and waited to see how his personality evolved.
Throughout his puppy-dom, Fauci was the most chaotic and full of frenzied energy. For a time, I wondered if this meant that he was most like his dad, JB, an unbelievable sled dog but also a personality mismatch for me. I waited.
As he matures, Fauci is showing the sides of his mom, Page. He gives me hugs like his uncle Wocket, and possesses a degree of grandpa Hawkeye’s calmness. (just a degree, though). He also seems to possess a natural confidence, satisfied in his place in the dogyard and in life.
In his first year training, Fauci figured things out and has begun to show promise as a racing dog. He still does goofy things like endlessly diving for snow, but he never messes with his neighbor, never looks back, and when in lead wants to go faster and faster. I’m hoping, and I think, he is closer to his mom’s side of the family than his dad’s in terms of personality.
Fauci is the one of the two that has had a harder time pacing himself, and now I’m starting to see it less of a pacing issue and more that he has an endless reserve like his relatives Wocket and Marian. Those dogs aren’t always hard on their tugs, but are there when you need them.
