We’re going racing!
With a group of veterans, and a new truck and box, it’s time to take this show on the road!
This year, we have an exciting race schedule. After running five races all across the country and Canada last year, I’m going to do some of my favorites, maybe try out a new race, and return to Can Am. This is possible due to our great sponsors, supporters, and especially the kennel sitters of Chuck and Laura.
Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race, Newberry MI, Jan 10-11
With no more early-season races in New England, we had to go all the way to MI to find a shake-down race for the team. This is a fun event, organized entirely by a group of hardworking mushers.
Wilderness Race, Greenville ME Feb 7: 8 dogs, 35 miles
This is such a great community race with some of the toughest terrain, that really showcases the mountain training of the team.
La Boreale 150km (90 miles), Parent QC Feb 14: 10 dogs, 100 miles
While I don’t love the format (checkpoint at the truck and a repeat of the loop for the second leg), I’ve also heard great things about this race and trail. Special thanks to friend Julie Albert who is going to ride in the truck on the woods road to get to Parent, and recruited a very special handler for the race.
Can Am 100, March 1, Fort kent ME
We’re baaaaaaack. Always some fierce competition from some badass women Canadian mushers in this race. Always so many unknowns in the race trail and conditions. Do the dogs and I still have it to compete? We’ll see…..
Great northwoods Sleddog Challenge, PIttsburg, NH, March 11-13: 8-10 dogs, 14 dog pool
This three-day stage race takes place in my home region, how can I not go? It will be a fun format to try out, with a pool of all the racing dogs. It’s a real treat as well to have a race that we don’t have to travel overnight for, we can drive there from home!
