We’re going racing!
With a group of veterans, and a new truck and box, it’s time to take this show on the road!
This year, we have an aggressive race schedule. After all the races being canceled last year, and investing in a new truck and box, I decided to run as many races as possible because races are precious. Of the races listed here, four of them are ones I’ve never run before! This is possible due to our great sponsors, supporters, and especially the kennel sitters of Chuck and Laura.
Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race, Newberry MI, Jan 11-12
With no more early-season races in New England, we had to go all the way to MI to find a shake-down race for the team. This was such a fun event, organized by mushers who really cared about putting in a good trail base. Special thanks to the Magnusson’s for allowing us to stay on and train for a few days.
PG Expedition Abitibi, La Sarre QC, Feb 1st: 10 dogs, 100 miles
A long way to go for a 100 mile race, but I’m excited for the format and I’ve heard the community really turns out for the race. The format is an out and back, a true 100 miles, with a Can-Am style checkpoint/ unassisted with dogs camped side by side. This format keeps me connected to my distance roots. Here’s hoping we can make do with the language barrier!
Wilderness Race, Greenville ME Feb 8: 8 dogs, 35 miles
This is such a great community race with some of the toughest terrain, that really showcases the mountain training of the team.
La Boreale 150km (90 miles), Parent QC Feb 15: 10 dogs, 100 miles
While I don’t love the format (checkpoint at the truck and a repeat of the loop for the second leg), I’ve also heard great things about this race and trail. Special thanks to friend Julie Albert who is going to ride in the truck on the woods road to get to Parent, and recruited a very special handler for the race.
Copper Dog 150, March 1, Calumet MI
First time in this race! I’ve heard great things and am excited for this new format of a three day stage race. Special thanks to Al Borak for agreeing to handle for the race, when he could be racing fast teams in AK.
Great northwoods Sleddog Challenge, PIttsburg, NH, March 11-13: 8-10 dogs, 14 dog pool
This three-day stage race takes place in my home region, how can I not go? It will be a fun format to try out, with a pool of all the racing dogs. It’s a real treat as well to have a race that we don’t have to travel overnight for, we can drive there from home!
