J.B.

When there’s a ride for dogs, and looking at incoming generations there’s a need for a certain age, gender, size, and skill set….sometimes a bonus dog shows up. After J.B. was added to the team in March, Chuck made me count the houses and promise not to add anyone else.

J.B. came at the recommendation of my friend Al from Bruce Magnusson’s kennel. Al had run him as a young dog, in the team with Spiller and Gemma. J.B. is a beautiful dog, with the same family tree as Gemma.

As a personality, J.B. goes from totally calm and serene to bazooka crazy in a split second. The things that make him go crazy are the possibility of running, or the possibility of two dogs getting in a tussle elsewhere in the dogyard. Otherwise, all is quiet and calm in J.B.’s world. Visiting him in his circle is really easy, as he’s not the kind of dog that jumps all over you when you’re working, but he is more than willing to crawl into your lap if you let him.

I was able to do a few runs with J.B. this spring before the snow melted, and much like Gemma he tested my leadership almost right away, slacking off and peeing on trees in the first mile. I cut that right off. I think he’ll fit in great and I’m looking forward to what this boy can do.
