Stitch

Stitchy is a big ol bear of a stuffed animal. He’s floofy and happy, and gives great hugs. I know I’m supposed to treat the dogs as the respectful working athletes that they are, but I always find myself squealing at Stitch and smooshing his big fluffy body against mine.

Stitch is brothers to Jax (same breeding, two years later), from Brenda Mackey, and came here originally as a team dog but moved quickly to point behind the leaders, and by his second year as a 5 year old, had become a main leader. Sometimes dogs are a little slow to mature into leadership. In 2025, Stitch led almost all the races, most of them with his brother Jax: Abitibi, Copper Dog, and the GNWSDC. Jax and Stitch love leading together, a happy, driven, steering wheel of a unit. I always find it funny watching big fluffy Stitch, looking like a trapline dog, racing against sleeker hounds and holding his own.

This year, Stitch continues as a main leader, pairing best with Maverick.
